Dixie Cup Hat Storage System

An elaborate contraption for one white hat.

UNIT PRICE$129.99

The Dixie Cup Hat Storage System is a stainless-steel and borosilicate glass display case — humidity controlled, LED illuminated, and airtight sealed — designed to house a single white Dixie cup sailor cover at optimal preservation conditions. It holds one hat. Just the one. The case is 14 inches tall, weighs 4.2 lbs, and costs $129.99, which is $129.99 more than any reasonable person would expect to spend on hat storage and exactly the right amount to spend on this hat.

The humidity control maintains a constant 45% relative humidity, which our textile preservation team has identified as optimal for white cotton covers that have seen parade deck wear, deployment heat, and the accumulated weight of someone's entire enlisted career. The LED ring illuminates from below, casting the hat in the kind of light usually reserved for museum artifacts and things that deserve to be looked at.

The Air Force issues berets, which are kept in a drawer or a pocket or wherever you put a beret, because a beret does not require a glass dome and nobody is going to pretend otherwise. This hat does.

The Air Force wears berets to brunch and keeps them in coat pockets, which is fine, because a beret has not earned a glass dome.

After-Action Reports

★★★★★ENS Patrick Moreau

I bought this for my grandfather's Dixie cup from 1971. It is now on his mantle under glass with the LED on. He cried a little. I am giving this five stars and I will not explain further.

★★★☆☆PO2 Shondra Lavelle

It is a very good display case. It is also $130. I am keeping it. I would not say I feel good about the price. The hat looks incredible though.

★★★★★CDR William Nakashima

Purchased four. One for each of my sailors who made E-3. Told them this is where your first cover lives when you upgrade to chief's khakis. They seemed moved. The LED is a nice touch.
