MRE Pairing Flight: The Fort Polk Collection
Four MREs paired with regret.
The Fort Polk Collection is a curated MRE tasting flight designed for the soldier who has eaten everything in the catalog and developed opinions about it. Four classic meals — Chili Mac, Beef Stew, Veggie Omelet, and the standalone Jalapeño Pepper Pouch — are presented in archival-grade packaging with hand-typed sommelier tasting notes from our resident field-cuisine specialist, SFC (Ret.) Donaldson.
Each pairing note addresses nose, palate, and finish. The Chili Mac is described as 'assertive, with notes of sodium and institutional intention.' The Veggie Omelet is characterized as 'challenging on first contact, meditative with repetition.' The Jalapeño Pepper Pouch is listed simply as 'a commitment.'
Sourced from training cycle surplus at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, Louisiana. Best consumed in a muddy patrol base with no cell service. Pairs well with a 3 a.m. watch shift and unresolved career decisions.
“While you eat this, the Air Force is ordering off a menu in Qatar with a protein option and a garnish.”

After-Action Reports
The tasting notes are genuinely accurate. 'Assertive' is the correct word for Chili Mac. This is the most honest food criticism I have ever read.
Served these at a unit dinner as a joke. My soldiers did not laugh. They ate everything and asked for more Jalapeño Pouches. I don't know what to do with this information.
I have consumed every MRE variant since 1996. The Fort Polk Collection is accurate. The packaging is unnecessary. I respect that it exists.
